A Map of Old St. AugustinepadPlease click on the map for a larger view.

St. Augustine, the oldest city in the United States of America. It's been here since 1565. Ever since then St. Augustine has had innovative people doing innovative things. Ponce de Leon with the Fountain of Youth. The massive fort of Castillo De San Marco, the beautiful Bridge of Lions that spans the Matanzas Bay.

The forward thinking of St Augustine's past has influenced the Artisans of St. Augustine today. Old world crafts have been combined with new designs and high tech quality.

As you walked the streets of Old St. Augustine you saw the modern crafts of St. George Street. You saw the Spanish influenced Antiques of San Marco Avenue. But when you walked down Cuna Street you saw the crafts of yesterday right here today.

Those great hand painted tiles custom fired for you by Jennifer and Steve Roche. The hand dipped and scented candles by Susan Bradley (Don't forget Susan's Rose candles). How about the hand made leather sandals made by Sue and Burgess Autrey. And that dainty Vintage Lace by Isabela?

Of course you remember those beautiful artists' prints of St. Augustine. Wonderful memories of the Castillo De San Marco, the Bridge of Lions, and the intriguing street scenes that date back to the 1500's.

A Map of New Orleans, LouisianapadPlease click on the map for a larger view.

We came to New Orleans to find those great southern artisans for which the city is so well known. We stayed in a guesthouse in the Garden District...a perfect place to be if you're looking for art.

As luck would have it, this was the week end of “Art for Art’s Sake.” We had arrived for New Orlean's kick-off party for the art season. All the galleries and artisans were getting ready to greet us, and thousands of other enthusiasts.

Over the next four days we scoured the city in search of everything from prints to pots and rings to rugs. We searched the French Quarter with its great restaurants and street performers. How hard it was to stay focussed on our quest. The “Big Easy” was calling. We walked the French Market and met some of the nicest vendors. Sally Parker was showing her husband Bob’s beautiful pottery. We saw “Street Scenes” that were just wonderful. The Louisiana Loom Works had those great rag rugs seen throughout the south. How about the leather masks at Momas?

We walked Magazine Street. The shops were great, but how do you choose from so many great arts and crafts. To name just a few…the wonderful pottery at Shadyside…the Millinary delights of Libby Brighton…the functional art of Hernan Caro…those hand painted signs of Steve and Yvette at Mystic Blue Sign Company.
