A gallery of Charleston, SC pottery including face jugs, face mugs, and face pots created by Randell Morgan. Randell was born in Charleston, South Carolina. He moved to Texas in his early years where he has since remained. Randell studied under the tutelage of well known folk artist Carl Block. Randell makes face jugs inspired by the homeless, including those he has met while volunteering at Church Of The Street, an organization that feeds the homeless. Randell throws his jugs on a potters wheel, then hand-sculpts the various features. The faces are then painted with colored glazes. The whimsical head jugs for which he is best known are characterized by larger-than-life facial features that seem to make them come to life. Randell is a true perfectionist and holds a keen eye for detail. This prevents his selling anything that does not meet his high standards. Those, "less-than-perfect people" are discarded in a nearby creek. Randell is often questioned about these frequent sacrifices of his work. He says, "I know their every imperfection and it bothers me. I feel a sort of relief after getting rid of what I consider the bad stuff".
