Marie Elaina Breaux was born in Joliet, Illinois, but having lived in the New Orleans area since her childhood, she considers the Big Easy her home. She began painting in the 1970s and has studied with some of New Orleans finest artists.
Painting primarily in oils, Marie likes to create realism in her work. Plantation homes and scenes from the lovely New Orleans area are her favorite subjects. Her paintings can be found in private homes and public facilities such as the prestigious Le Pavion Hotel.

 | Houmas House, 1840 As shown above.
Named after the Houma Indians, this two and a half story mansion has been completely restored and refurnished to reflect the period before 1840. This beautiful home was saved from neglect and nature by Dr. George B. Crozat in 1940.

Nottoway, 1859 The largest plantation home in the South, Nottoway was built by John Hampden Randolph. It was completed in 1857 on the eve of the Civil War. The plantation was restored by Arlin Dease and opened to the public in 1981. Nottoway features more than sixty rooms and is over 53,000 square feet.

Seven Oaks, 1830 Seven Oaks was located within an industrial farm in Westwego across the river from New Orleans. Through the years the house suffered from neglect and vandalism. The ruins were bulldozed in 1977.

Oak Alley, 1839 Surrounded by 28 Doric columns, Oak Alley is probably the best known plantation home in Louisiana. The 90-foot square home stands at the end of a spectacular avenue of 28 trees that are at least one hundred years older than the plantation itself.

Uniquely New Orleans The trolley still runs along St. Charles Avenue, but you wont see a horse drawn delivery truck anymore. The Camelia Grill is a part of this scene from the early 1900s.
