Shadows on the Teche is one of the Deep South's most fabled houses. It was built between 1831 and 1834 for David Weeks, a wealthy planter, on the banks of Bayou Teche. Located in New Iberia, Louisiana.

Oak Alley Plantation by Brad Thompson

In 1690, a French merchant planted an alley of oak trees to attract attention to his store in Vacherie, Louisiana. One hundred forty- seven years later, in 1837, Jacques Telesphore Roman III replaced the simple dwelling with the existing mansion.

Houmas House

This magnificent Greek revival mansion was built by Colonel John Smith Preston in 1840 on land originally owned by the Houmas Indians. It is surrounded by live oaks, magnolias, and formal gardens. "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte" was filmed there.

Nottoway Plantation by Brad Thompson

Nottoway was completed in 1859 for Mr. and Mrs. John Hampden Randolph and their eleven children. The Greek revival and Italionate mansion boasts 53,000 square feet, making it the largest plantation in the south. Randolph acquired over 7,000 acres of land making his fortune in sugarcane.

San Francisco Plantation by Brad Thompson

On the banks of the Mississippi River, less than an hour's drive west of New Orleans, stands one of the most remarkable examples of mid-nineteenth century architecture in Louisiana. Built in 1856 by Edmond Bozonier Marmillion, the house was originally named "St. Frusquin", a name derived from the French slang term, Sans Fruscin", which means "without a penny in my pocket" (presumably, a reference to its high cost).

Evergreen Plantation House by Brad Thompson

This two-story brick structure was built between 1830 and 1840 by Ralph Brou in the Greek revival style. One of the finest examples of a Louisiana plantation house of more than a century ago. Located on River Road, five miles west of Edgard.

Madewood Plantation

One of the best preserved plantation homes of the antebellum period. The name Madewood comes from the fact its cypress timbers were hand carved from trees on the 3,000 acre plantation. Built between 1840 and 1848, Madewood was the home of Colonel Thomas Pugh of North Carolina. He died of yellow fever before it was finished.

In 1905 Sam Cortese, a man with no legs, had this taffy wagon built. Grandson, Ron Kottermann, still runs the mule-pulled taffy wagon today.

Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop by Brad Thompson
